As we observe our 30th anniversary, we extend our gratitude to ORP’s Board of Directors for their unwavering dedication to Chesapeake Bay oyster restoration efforts. We bid farewell to departing members Robert Driscoll, William “Billy” Rice, and Russell Dize, whose contributions have been invaluable to our mission and programs.
We also warmly welcome back returning member Karen Oertel of Harris Seafood, and extend a warm welcome to our newest board member, Shannon Lyons, East Coast Regional Director with the Surfrider Foundation. Karen’s continued dedication and Shannon’s fresh perspective will enrich our board and advance ORP’s mission.
For more than 40 years, Karen has been engaged in the seafood industry, serving on various business and nonprofit boards. As a member of the Harris Family Partnership, she played a key role in founding ORP.
Shannon bridges science and people for marine conservation, with a focus on topics like mitigating whale ship strikes and ecosystem-based fisheries management. She directed the Making History Campaign at Chesapeake Bay Foundation and holds degrees from Duke and the University of Delaware.
Thank you to all departing and incoming board members for your invaluable contributions. Your guidance and governance are instrumental as we continue to utilize the latest science and innovations to restore oyster populations and improve Bay health.
