Herring Bay offers so much to those who live and recreate within its borders: inspiration, relaxation, and enjoyment. Described as an “ecological jewel,” its cliffs are known for bald eagle sightings, and waters as nesting grounds for terrapin turtles. Herring Bay once teemed with oyster beds, yet today the oyster population is a fraction of what it was. Oysters provide critical ecological services as water filterers and creators of habitat for other marine species. Where oysters are plentiful, waterways thrive. That’s why the Advocates for Herring Bay and the Oyster Recovery Partnership are partnering to bring Operation Build-a-Reef to Herring Bay.

YOU can make an impact on the health of Herring Bay by donating to Operation Build-a-Reef! Every donation directly supports the production and planting of juvenile oysters in the waterway. Please consider purchasing a bushel of spat-on-shell for $100. Each bushel contains thousands of oysters!
