Oyster Restoration Projects

The Delaware Bay Oyster Restoration Task Force and the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary a regional nonprofit commissioned in 1996, has been restoring oysters back to the Delaware Bay.  Their mission is to lead science-based and collaborative efforts to improve the tidal Delaware River and Bay, which spans Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.  Its staff work with many partners to increase awareness, understanding, and scientific knowledge about the Delaware Estuary.

Delaware Center for Inland Bays and Delaware Sea Grant have teamed up to create a cooperative Oyster Gardening program. This program is designed to educate the public about oysters as well as to promote water quality.

New Jersey’s BaySave Foundation has begun collected shell for recycling from Philadelphia restaurant, and has hopes to expand further.
