History of Restoration

TIMELINE

  • 1994: ORP founded
  • 2010: Shell Recycling Alliance Formed
  • 2014: Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement Signed
  • 2015: Harris Creek Reef Restoration Completed
  • 2018: Operation Build-a-Reef Campaign plants 45.1 million oysters on sanctuary reefs in the Severn River. Funded by DNR and grassroots donations.
  • 2019: ORP’s 25th Anniversary – 8.5 billion oysters planted and 200,000 oyster shells recycled!
  • 2020: Little Choptank Reef Restoration Completed
  • 2020: Operation Build-a-Reef returns planting 16.9 million oysters in the Severn. Fully funded by grassroots donations.
  • In 2021, ORP hopes to complete work in the Tred Avon River (92.45 acres of reef completed, 147 acres ID’d for restoration) and commence restoration in the Manokin (441 acres ID’d for restoration) and Upper St. Mary’s Rivers (59.7 ID’d for restoration).
