The world needs Science, and Science needs Women!
While there is still a lot to be done to achieve true gender equality in science, we want to take this day to celebrate the women of ORP and their accomplishments. Incredible women are part of our industry and make important contributions to the advancement of marine science. Sunday, February 12th is International Day of Women and Girls in Science so take a moment and see what advice our team of scientists have about their work and how they are helping create a future that includes a healthier Chesapeake Bay for everyone, regardless of race or gender.
Advice for women in STEM from ORP’s women scientists
-
Remind yourself that you belong.
-
Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself and take advantage of opportunities to grow.
-
Speak up when you have ideas. Always advocate for yourself!
-
Establish strong relationships with other women in science. Finding a woman mentor(s) has helped us take the biggest strides in our personal and professional growth. Support your women peers and collaborate instead of competing with them.
-
If you’re passionate about something, do it! Caring about your work is empowering.
