Want to help restore the Chesapeake Bay and compete for a $1,000 prize? Join Finlandia Vodka, 98 Rock, and the Oyster Recovery Partnership for a shell bagging competition on Black Eyed Susan Day, May 17, at Pimlico Racetrack. Register to become one of thirty 2-person teams to compete to help us bag oyster shells for Chesapeake Bay oyster restoration programs.
Competition details: Each team of two people will fill 10 mesh bags with clean, dried shell, then tie the bag closed. Each bag must be carried approximately 50 feet and stacked on a pallet. To keep things exciting, you’ll be racing against the other teams to see how fast you can make the bags. The four teams with the fastest times will compete for the $1,000 prize!
Perks: Contestants will receive free tickets to Black Eyed Susan Day at the Pimlico Racetrack. After the competition, contestants are welcome to enjoy the day’s festivities, watch the horse races, and enjoy concerts including Rodney Atkins and the Goo Goo Dolls.
Purpose: Shell bags made during this contest will later be used as homes for oyster spat and planted by the Oyster Recovery Partnership to create reefs that will regenerate the oyster population in the Chesapeake Bay.
Contestants must be 21 or older to participate. Enter to qualify for the contest by texting FINLANDIA to 56332.
