E-Reporting Harvest Programs

Blue Crab and Striped Bass Harvest eReporting Pilot Project

The Blue Crab and Striped Bass Harvest eReporting Pilot Projects are helping in the development of a more efficient catch reporting and hailing system for the commercial fishing industry.

In May 2012, ORP, in cooperation with Blue Crab Design Team, MWA, CBCFA, EDF,  DNR, Electric Edge and Versar, initiated a program to develop a robust electronic reporting and hailing system to track and increase the accountability of crab harvests. Since then, more than 200 watermen have participated in the program.

Spearheaded by the Blue Crab Design Team, a training curriculum was also developed for participants to learn how to use the reporting system and managed the program. Click here for more information about the project.

In 2014 and 2015, the pilot program was expanded to include the Striped Bass fishery. The mobile web application system allows the commercial license holders to have instant access to all their harvest records, permit the transfer their harvest quotas and help to reduce entry errors.
